Lady Rebels sweep past pair of conference foes
Riverside gained a pair of 2A-3 conference victories, edging Rector 45-42 Monday night before rallying for a thrilling 57-52 overtime victory Thursday night over Augusta.
The Lady Rebels trailed throughout the first three quarters against Augusta, before Kenzley Wilson's free throw in the closing seconds of regulation sent the game into overtime. Chelsea Nichols hit three critical free throws in the extra period to seal the win for the Lady Rebels, who improved to 11-12 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
The Lady Red Devils led 14-12 after the opening period, 26-24 at the half and 36-30 after three quarters of play.
Lauren Weaver poured in 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Riverside while Wilson scored 16 points and snared eight boards. Nichols finished with eight points, Anna Brickell tallied six while Catlyn Sailor chipped in four. Riverside hit 15-24 foul shots and drained six treys on the night.
Carol Gant led Augusta with 15 points.
Anna Brickell recorded a double-double, scoring 16 points while grabbing 11 rebounds in Riverside's three point victory over Rector. Kenzley Wilson and Natalie Milligan hit double digits, scoring 10 points apiece. Catlyn Sailor netted four, Chelsea Nichols tallied three while Lauren Weaver chipped in two points.
Kendall Gunn led the Lady Cougars with 13 points.
In junior high action, Riverside downed Rector 31-21 before defeating Augusta 34-26. Seventh grader Hattie Milligan led the Lady Rebels past Rector with 13 points. Skylar Kauke scored seven, Madison Black netted six, Britany Kelems and Hannah Fisher tallied two points apiece while Lauren Smith added one.
Tori Hill led Rector with 10 points.
Skylar Kauke and Madison Black scored 11 points apiece in Riverside's win over Augusta. Hattie Milligan also hit double digits with 10 points while Britany Kelems added two.
Riverside returns to action Monday night when they travel to Marked Tree to take on the Lady Indians. The Lady Rebels will finish the week Thursday night at McCrory.
