Lady Lions continue to roar
Taylor Teague sank two pressure packed free throws with one second left in overtime to lift the Lady Lions to a thrilling 69-67 victory over Rivercrest Monday night at Manila.
Manila held a slim 14-13 edge after the first quarter and led 28-24 at the half. The Lady Lions took a 50-41 lead into the final period of play before watching the Lady Colts rally to tie the game 62-62 at the end of regulation.
Emily Cook led Manila with 23 points while Teague chipped in 17. Kirsten Adcock also hit double digits, scoring 16 points. Shelby Wallace netted eight while Kristen Wise added three. The Lady Lions finished the night 23-32 from the foul line and drilled six three pointers for the game.
Dominique Brown poured in 42 points while Taylor Harris added 22 more to lead the Lady Colts. Rivercrest hit 12-24 free throws and drained three treys on the night.
Manila improved to 11-1 and 8-0 with a 59-45 victory over Piggott Thursday night on the road. Devin Burrow drained four three pointers en route to a game high 17 point performance. Kirsten Adcock pumped in 15 while Shelby Wallace added 13 more. Taylor Teague scored six, Emily Cook netted four, Kristen Wise tallied three while Heather Hollis chipped in one. Manila connected on 19-20 free throws and drilled six three pointers.
Mallory Wright led the Lady Mohawks with 16 points while Bailey Pollard added 13 more. Piggott hit 12-14 from the foul line and made five three pointers.
In junior high action, Manila defeated Rivercrest 33-27 before falling to Piggott 40-37.
Kaitynn Boatman led Manila with nine points in its win over the Lady Colts, while Shae Kulin chipped in eight. Taylor Harmon and Jordyn Wheeler scored five points apiece, Hannah Teague tallied three, Hannah McQueen chipped in two while Lauren Woody added one point.
Karstan Bornes led Rivercrest with 16 points.
Madison Chandler poured in 16 points in to lead the Lady Mohawks in Piggott's win over Manila.
Taylor Harmon led Manila with 11 points while Lauren Woody added 10. Kaitynn Boatman scored seven, Shae Kulin netted five while Jordyn Wheeler and Hannah Teague added two points apiece.
Manila will return to the hard court Thursday afternoon when they take on Tuckerman in the first round of the Northeast Arkansas Invitational Tournament at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
