Buffalo Island Central added to its lists of Jonesboro victims, with a convincing 49-36 victory over Nettleton Tuesday night on the road.
The Lady Mustangs jumped to a 9-3 lead after the first quarter and held a slim 19-17 edge at intermission. BIC blew the game open in the third period, outscoring the Lady Raiders 19-7 to take a 38-24 lead heading into the final frame.
Brittany Fowler drained three treys while Brittany Stockton and Katelyn Sparkman added a three pointer apiece in BIC's third quarter spurt. The Lady Mustangs (17-3, 6-1 2A-3) pushed its lead to as many as 16 points in the fourth period and coasted home with the victory.
"I thought everyone played very well tonight," said BIC Coach Stan Fowler. "This was our sixth game in the last week, and the girls are ready for a break. They really came to play tonight. Our defense was outstanding. We hit big shots when we needed to. They just played a great overall game. I am very proud of them."
The Lady Mustangs began the week with a 65-53 2A-3 conference victory Monday night over Marked Tree. Katelyn Sparkman led BIC with 21 points while Emily Owens and Brittany Fowler added 18 and 15 points respectively. Cassidy Qualls scored seven while Taylor McKuin and Rachel Goldammer added two points apiece.
Poohnu Perry led Marked Tree with a game high 31 points while Jay Perry added 10.
In junior high action, BIC downed Marked Tree 30-18. Blaire Wildy led BIC with 12 points while Kayla Griffin added eight. Ashley Field scored four while Jona Carmichael, Curston Davis and Makala Rogers added two points apiece.
The Lady Mustangs return to action Monday night when they play host to Rector in a 2A-3 league battle. BIC will also begin play in the Northeast Arkansas Invitational Tournament as the number three seed Thursday. The Lady Mustangs will begin first round play Thursday night against 14th seeded Trumann at 9 p.m.
