Emily Owens' shot at the buzzer sent Buffalo Island Central's 2A-3 conference battle with East Poinsett County into overtime, where the Lady Mustangs prevailed 58-53 Monday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex.
EPC held a 19-11 advantage after the first quarter before taking a slim 29-28 edge into the dressing room at the half. BIC led 39-37 heading into the fourth period of play before Owens' shot sent the game into overtime.
Brittany Fowler led BIC with 16 points while Brittany Stockton added 11, including two key field goals in the overtime period. Owens netted nine, Madison Greathouse scored six, Hannah Poe and Taylor McKuin tallied five points apiece, Cassidy Qualls netted four while Katelyn Sparkman chipped in two points to round out the Lady Mustang scoring attack.
Synteria Ward led the Lady Warriors with 18 points while Teria Young and Alicia Ross added 14 and 10 points respectively.
BIC knocked off Jonesboro 53-50 in the McDonald's Shootout in Paragould. Cassidy Qualls poured in 18 points, including five three pointers, while Brittany Stockton added 13 to lead the Mustangs over the Hurricane. Brittany Fowler scored nine, Hannah Poe netted seven, Emily Owens tallied four while Shania Junyor chipped in two points.
BIC lost to Marmaduke 71-61 in the third place game of the McDonald's Shootout Saturday afternoon at Paragould.
BIC (15-3) was led by Brittany Fowler's 19 points while Emily Owens netted 15. Whitley Boggs paced Marmaduke with 26 points while Sidnee Bopp scored 21.
Brittany Fowler and Cassidy Qualls were named to the All-Tournament team.
In junior high action, BIC remained undefeated in 2A-3 conference play with a 35-26 win over EPC. Blaire Wildy led BIC with 13 points. Ashley Field scored eight, Kayla Griffin netted six, Nikki Gordon tallied five while Sadie Lawson chipped in three points.
BIC will play host to Marked Tree in 2A-3 conference play Monday night before traveling to Nettleton to take on the Lady Raiders in a nonconference matchup Tuesday night.
