Mustangs fall to Concord in White County Tournament finals

Buffalo Island Central came up short in the finals of the White County Invitational Tournament, dropping a 71-43 decision to Concord Saturday night at Providence.

BIC (10-7) was led by Nick Bollinger who scored 16 points while Austin Pike added 14.

The Mustangs advanced to the finals, defeating Quitman 60-54 Monday night before knocking off White County 55-54 in Thursday night's semifinal thriller.

Jacob Sanders' 10-foot runner with nine seconds left lifted the Mustangs over White County and into the finals. Nick Bollinger and Dilynn Strickland led BIC with 14 points apiece while Sanders and Alan Carmichael added eight points each. Austin Pike scored five while Devon and Alex Ballin chipped in two points apiece.

Trace Jones led White County with 14 points while Ethan Hall and Garrett Horton added 12 and 10 points respectively.

Austin Pike pumped in 21 points in BIC's victory over Quitman. Dilynn Strickland scored 16 points while Nick Bollinger chipped in 13 to lead the Mustangs. Devon Ballin tallied five while Jacob Sanders and Alan Carmichael added two points apiece.

The Mustangs also came away with a 2A-3 conference victory, defeating Cross County 81-65 Tuesday night at Monette.

Nick Bollinger poured in 36 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to power the Mustangs past the Thunderbirds. The 6'2" junior connected on 17-20 shots from the field. Austin Pike delivered a triple double, scoring 10 points while grabbing 10 boards and dishing out 10 assists on the night. Dilynn Strickland added a double-double, scoring 13 points while snaring 10 rebounds. Alan Carmichael scored four points and added 10 boards on the night. Alex Ballin and Tyler Myers scored four points apiece, Devon Ballin and Jacob Sanders netted three points each while Drake Brown and Gunnar James added two points apiece.

Dylan Hudson led the Thunderbirds with 25 points.

In junior high action, BIC downed Cross County 56-47 to improve to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in league play. Dustyn Myers led the Mustangs with 13 points, Ryan Austin scored 12 while Evan Sanders added 10. Jerry Cazares scored eight, Trey DePriest tallied seven while Cory Turner, Trevor Couch and Alex Talevera added two points apiece.

BIC will return to action Tuesday night when they play host to defending state champion East Poinsett County at the Mustang Athletic Complex. The Mustangs will travel to Marmaduke Friday night to take on the Greyhounds in another 2A-3 conference battle.
