Lady Rebels claim key conference win at Rector
Riverside's Lady Rebels traveled to Rector Monday night and came away with a big 2A-3 conference victory, defeating the Lady Cougars 54-49.
The Lady Rebels jumped ahead 15-10 after the first quarter and held a 26-19 halftime lead. Riverside held a 38-34 advantage heading into the final period of play and outscored Rector 17-13 in the fourth quarter to hang on for the win.
Kenzley Wilson led the Lady Rebs with 19 points while Lauren Weaver chipped in 17 more to go along with nine boards. Anna Brickell added 11 points, Catlyn Sailor scored four while Natalie Milligan chipped in two. Riverside went to the foul line 39 times and connected on 24.
Kendall Gunn led Rector with 15 points while Anna Blackshare added 11. Rector hit 17-33 free throws and nailed six three pointers on the night.
Riverside battled Valley View in the Gerald Jennings Invitational Tournament Tuesday night at Armorel, but came up short in a 46-38 defeat at the hands of the Lady Blazers. Riverside led 13-7 after the opening quarter before watching Valley View fight back to take a 22-17 halftime lead. The Lady Rebels cut the Blazer lead to 34-32 entering the final period of play, but Valley View held on to advance in the tourney.
Darrah Merritt led Valley View with 12 points while Ashleigh Guthrie chipped in 10.
Lauren Weaver recorded a double-double, scoring 20 points while grabbing 10 rebounds to lead Riverside. Kenzley Wilson scored 11 points, Catlyn Sailor netted four while Anna Brickell chipped in three.
In junior high action, Riverside downed Rector 30-22. Madison Black led the junior Rebels with 12 points while Britany Kelems and Skylar Kauke added nine points apiece.
Riverside dropped a 31-18 decision in the Gerald Jennings Tournament to Gosnell. Khrishana Hill led the Lady Pirates with 12 points.
Madison Black topped Riverside with 11 points, Lauren Smith tallied three while Britany Kelems and Skylar Kauke added two points apiece.
Riverside will return to the hard court Monday night at Augusta in 2A-3 conference play. The Lady Rebels will play host to Marked Tree Thursday night in another conference matchup.
