Buffalo Island Central faced 2A-3 conference newcomer Augusta for the first time and found the Red Devils to be a formidable foe, dropping an 89-52 decision Tuesday night on the road.
Ervin Gant hit five three pointers and scored a game high 26 points to lead Augusta, while teammate Jordan Brown chipped in 23 more. The Red Devils finished the night with 12 three pointers.
Augusta led 26-9 after the first quarter, 54-27 at the half and 75-40 after three periods of play.
Nick Bollinger led BIC with 19 points. Austin Pike and Dilynn Strickland scored nine points apiece. Jacob Sanders tallied five, Alex Ballin and Devon Ballin netted four points each while Tyler Myers added two points.
In junior high action, BIC slipped past Augusta 36-35. Dustyn Myers led the Mustangs with 13 points, Trevor Couch scored six, Trey DePriest tallied five while Ryan Austin and Jerry Cazares added four points apiece. Alex Talevera and Evan Sanders added two points each.
In the Bay Invitational Junior Tournament, BIC rolled past Marmaduke 58-29. Jerry Cazares led BIC with eight points, Dax Hurst and Dustyn Myers scored seven points apiece, Evan Sanders tallied six, Trevor Couch netted five, Lane Crites scored four while Dylan Mitchell, Drake Jones, Trey DePriest and Alex Talevera added three points apiece. Tanner Cecil, Dylan Hurst, Drew McFall and Jared Shirley scored two points each. Cory Turner added one point to round out the Mustang scoring.
Nettleton eliminated the Mustangs in the semifinals of the tournament with a 52-35 victory. Wes Sanderson led the Raiders with 18 points while Xzavier Reed added 10.
Ryan Austin led the Mustangs with 14 points, Dustyn Myers and Trey Depriest scored eight points apiece while Lane Crites added three. Jerry Cazares completed the Mustang scoring with two points.
