Veterans were honored at BIC West Elementary.

The fourth, fifth and sixth grade classes at Buffalo Island Central West Elementary presented a "Thank You and a Promise" program Friday, Nov. 9, to honor area veterans.

The students took charge of the entire program, that consisted of pledges, music, histories, and videos.

The Color Guard posted the colors and consisted of Gavin Gathright, Bradley Hill, Mason Nuckles, Tate Schooley, Lillie Hatch, and Laci Dewitt.

Color Guard Commander Harris McCord led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag, along with Kaden Thomas, and they led the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner."

Conner McCord gave the invocation, followed by the welcome by Haddyn Hurst.

The fourth and fifth grade chorus sang, "You're a Grand Old Flag."

Katie Fry gave the history of Veterans Day, and Haddyn Hurst recognized the veterans present, as classmates presented them with miniature American flags. Presenters were Lillie Hatch, Laci Dewitt, Eli Couch, and Grady Peel.

The sixth grade chorus sang "God Bless the U.S.A."

Baylee Rose presented a reading of "In Flanders Fields."

Ty Finch lit the Remembrance Candle at the closing of the program.

The colors were retired, and veterans and their families were invited to attend the reception, held in their honor.
