Manila's Lady Lions opened up the Mark Manchester era with a pair of victories last week in senior girls basketball action.
Manila tipped off the basketball campaign with a 58-33 victory over Rector Monday night at Manila before handling Brookland, 51-43, Thursday night on the road, giving Manchester his first two victories as the new Lady Lion coach.
Manila jumped to a 17-10 first quarter lead over the Lady Cougars, and outscored Rector 19-4 in the second period to take a 36-14 halftime lead. Manila stretched its advantage to 56-24 entering the fourth quarter.
Kirsten Adcock pumped in 13 points while Emily Cook chipped in 12 to lead the Lady Lions. Kailen Shelton finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Manila took the junior high contest with an easy 59-32 victory.
Manila outscored Brookland 19-4 in the second quarter, propelling the Lady Lions to an eight point victory over the Lady Bearcats. Emily Cook led Manila (2-0) with 14 points while Shelby Wallace and Kailen Shelton added 13 points apiece.
Brookland slipped past Manila 49-47 in overtime to take the junior high contest.
