BIC junior boys celebrate homecoming with win over Black Rock

Buffalo Island Central placed 15 players in the scoring column and went on to celebrate a 57-33 Homecoming victory Friday night in junior high basketball action at Leachville.

The junior Mustangs jumped to an 18-5 first period lead and stretched their advantage to 30-9 at the half. BIC led 44-18 after three quarters of play.

Ryan Austin led BIC with 13 points while Dustin Myers also hit double digits with 11. Drake Jones scored five, Evan Sanders and Trey Depriest tallied four, Dalton Clay netted three while Cory Turner, Lane Crites, Trevor Couch, Jared Shirley, Jerry Cazares, Drew McFall, Tyler Parker and Shane Thompson all added two points apiece. Dax Hurst chipped in one point.

Carter Vance and Matt Wilkins led the Zebras with 10 and nine points respectively.

In senior high action, BIC rolled to a 57-27 victory behind Austin Pike, who pumped in 16 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Nick Bollinger recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points while snaring 10 boards. Tyler Myers added 13 points and pulled down six rebounds. The victory upped BIC's record to 4-3 on the year.

Caleb McKenzie led Black Rock with 10 points.

BIC traveled to Bay Tuesday night and dropped a 59-25 decision to the Yellowjackets.Bay led 17-9 after the opening period, 34-17 at the half and 49-21 after three quarters.

Dilynn Strickland and Jacob Sanders led BIC with six points apiece. Alan Carmichael and Devon Ballin had four points each, Nick Bollinger and Austin Pike tallied two points apiece while Alex Ballin chipped in one point.

Dylan Loven led Bay with 16 points.

Bay also claimed the junior high contest with a 43-23 victory.

Jonathan Crain led Bay with 19 points while Dustin Utley added 12. The Yellowjackets took a 15-4 lead after the first period and held a 23-11 halftime advantage. Bay led 33-17 after three periods of play.

Jerry Cazares topped the Mustangs with 11 points. Dustin Myers scored four while Adrian Lopez, Jared Shirley, Ryan Austin and Trey Depriest added two points apiece.

BIC will host Manila Tuesday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex before traveling to Paragould to face Crowley's Ridge Academy Thursday night.

The Lady Mustangs improved to 5-0 on the season with a pair of victories last week. BIC began the week with a 57-40 victory over Armorel Monday night at Monette. Brittany Fowler poured in 23 points while Emily Owens added 16 points and nine rebounds for BIC. Madison Carr paced Armorel with 23 points.

BIC traveled to Bay Thursday night and handed the Lady Yellowjackets their first defeat of the year, 53-40. Brittany Fowler paced BIC with 18 points while Emily Owens chipped in 14. Sara Sharp led Bay with 15 points while Brittany Roedel added 11 more.

The Junior Lady Mustangs improved to 4-2 on the year, defeating Armorel 39-13 and Bay 45-30.

Blaire Wildy and Ashley Field scored 10 points apiece to lead the junior Lady Mustangs over Armorel. Field scored 14 points while Wildy added 10 in BIC's win at Bay.

The Lady Mustangs begin conference play Monday night, playing host to McCrory before traveling to Marmaduke for a key 3A-3 North Conference showdown with the Lady Greyhounds
