Manila Middle School FBLA is always looking for ways to give back to the community. The officers thought Thanksgiving would be a great time to do a community service project. The members of the middle school FBLA are inviting their fellow middle school students to participate in a can food drive. They will collect canned food through Nov. 20 at the middle school.
All the food collected will be given to the Manila Lion's Club for their holiday food baskets. The students want the food to stay here in Manila, to help Manila families during the holiday season.
Of course they also decided to add a competitive element to this food drive. Each class is challenged to bring a certain type of canned food. Fifth grade will bring pork-n-beans, sixth grade will bring green peas, seventh grade will bring corn, and eighth grade will bring green beans.
If the donations exceed 100 cans, then the class that donates the most will receive a snack break on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from the Middle School FBLA and an additional popcorn party after Thanksgiving provided by the Middle School Student Council. Last year over 500 cans of food were collected.
The FBLA would also invite the community to get involved. Anyone wishing to donate is encouraged to drop off canned goods at the Manila Middle School office.
