Riverside brings home state tennis titles
Riverside girls' tennis team, individual and doubles are celebrating their third consecutive state titles.
The tennis team won their third state championship on Tuesday at the 2A state tennis tournament held at Harrison.
Members of the team include Kenzley Wilson, Anna Brickell, Lauren Weaver, Madison Qualls, Natalie Milligan, Jordan Miller, Kaitlin Hale, Sydney Emery, Taylor Archer and Chelsea Nichols.
Anna Brickell, a junior, won her third straight 2A individual state championship with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jessica Pendleton of Parkers chapel.
The team of Lauren Weaver and Kenzley Wilson won the doubles state title for the second year in a row; making it three years for a Riverside team to capture the state title.
Chelsea Nichols also finished fourth in the Girls' Single Division.
The Riverside boys' doubles team of Logan Meurer and Kollin Stone finished fourth overall in the 2A boys' division.
Terry Connor, assisted by Scott Dunkerson, coach the Riverside tennis teams.
Anna, (singles), and Lauren and Kenzley (doubles) will be competing in the Overall competition held in Little Rock on Wednesday.
Conner praised the tennis players for their dedication.
"They are good athletes and always willing to work to get better," Connor said. "They give 110 percent every time. They are easy to coach. They listen well and work hard. I appreciate them and the parents for their support in the program.
"It's going to be another strong team next year," Connor said. "We are losing Lauren Weaver who won the doubles two years in a row and she will be hard to replace," Connor said. "Everyone else will be back."
The boys' tennis team has one senior, Logan Meurer.
