Area golfers qualify for state tournament play

Buffalo Island Central fired a team score of 176 to finish second in the 2A-3 District Tournament Monday, Sept. 17, at the Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend, qualifying the Lady Mustangs for this week's state tournament in Danville.

Rachel Simmons led BIC, shooting a 56, while teammates Brittany Stockton and Shania Junyor fired rounds of 57 and 63. Kayley Greathouse will round out the quartet in this year's state tournament.

The Mustangs also had two boys qualify for state tournament play. Ryan Stuck shot a 91 in district tournament action while Jacob Sanders fired a 97 to advance to state tournament competition, which will begin Monday, Oct. 1, at the Chamberlain Country Club in Danville.

Manila also had two golfers qualify for the 3A State Tournament. Scott Eubanks will represent the Lions while Taylor Teague will compete for the Lady Lions.
