Margaret Ellen Fletcher

Margaret Ellen Fletcher, 96, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born Aug. 14, 1916 at Black Oak to the late Roscoe and Martha Whitley. Mrs. Fletcher was a member of the Caraway Church of Christ. She worked for the Caraway Schools as a cafeteria worker for nine years and retired from American Greetings after 13 years. Mama Margaret loved to cook for her family, mowed her own yard and quilt. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Glenna and Charles Brickell and Wayne and Sharon Fletcher; eight grandchildren, Mike Brickell, Cindy Easley, Don Fletcher, Alison McFarlin, Anthony Fletcher, Shannon Kelems, Jason Kelems and Christopher Kelems; twenty-one great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alston Jewel Fletcher; four sisters, Nina Finch, Lorene Mangrum, Nettie Porter and Emma Fetters; a brother, Lawrence Whitley.

A celebration of her life was 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Gregg Funeral Home in Caraway with John Shadowens and Jerry "Chub" Qualls officiating. Burial followed at Caraway Cemetery.

Visitation was from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Henry Dean Finch, Robbie Doyle Finch, Wayne Whitley, J.R. Fetters, Donnie Mangrum and Don Fletcher and as honorary pallbearers, Rick Copeland, Eddie Dunigan, Tommy Carner, Gary Taylor and the members of the Caraway Church of Christ.

Lasting memorials may be sent to Caraway Church of Christ or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
