Museum Talk -- school memories

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

As school starts back for the kids, it is a time of looking back on cherished memories for the rest of us. We pull out annuals and pictures and look back on the days when life was simpler.

Yearbooks and memorabilla from schools of years past are on display at the Buffalo Island Museum in Monette.

At the Buffalo Island Museum, we are proud to have a school memorabilia display that included Monette school jackets and a Black Oak baseball uniform. We also have photos of some of the older schools in this area.

Generous donors have shared their school annuals with us so that all of you can come reflect on those wonderful days.

Upstairs in the reading room, we are proud to have Childress annuals from 1955 through 1959. We have Monette annuals from 1938, 1948, 1949, 1954, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1974-1977, and 1979-1982. We also have Manila annuals from 1953, 1963, and 1965 as well as an ASU yearbook from 1966.

We also have trophies from past sports teams. Scrapbooks from Coach Neil Abel are also upstairs, from his years of coaching. There are also numerous old photographs from the years past.

We invite you to come, enjoy our school exhibit, and reflect on those good times you had in school. Annuals are also a great reference for genealogy.

If you have any annuals or pictures to share, we would gladly take any donations to improve our collection. We will gladly make copies of any pictures so you can hold on to your originals. If you have any pictures to share, you may email us at, or visit us on Facebook at Buffalo Island Museum.
