Manila School Board fills positions
Following an executive session at the July meeting held Monday, July 30, members of the Manila School Board voted unanimously to hire Lindsey Box to fill the high school English position. They also voted to approve Superintendent Pam Castor's recommendation to hire Danny Helms as football practice coach.
All board members, Tracey Reinhart, president; Danny Robbins, vice president; Brandon Veach, secretary; Johnny McCain, Tony Crowell, Jeremy Jackson and Tommy Wagner were present.
The board reviewed prices for renting a portable restroom building to be used for the football season. The buildings rent for $2,800 a month with $3.50 a mile for delivery. Castor said the company does not service this area and the district would have to have a local company pump it out at a cost of $400 each after home games. There is six senior home games.
Following the discussion, the board voted to go with Safety-Quip of Memphis.
In other business:
*The board accepted the low bread bid from Wonder/Hostess and Turner Dairy/Prairie Farms milk bid.
*Superintendent Castor informed the board open house will be held from 5:45-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. The high school back to school bash and elementary activities will be held on the same evening.
*Superintendent Castor told the board there will be a building walk-through at the August board meeting. The new starting time will be 6:30 p.m. year round.
*The Manila District will host the county-wide elementary in-service meeting on Aug. 16.
*Superintendent Castor praised Leeann Helms, middle school principal, and the Manila Middle School for their recognition by the JBHM Corporation.
*Superintendent Castor recognized School Board members Jeremy Jackson and Johnny McCain for attending the Regional Conference.
*The board approved the transfer request of Allie Adams from BIC to Manila.
The next scheduled school board meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.
