Lake City council hires police officer

Monday, June 25, 2012

Lake City Council hired a new police officer, accepted second reading of ordinance, and re-appointed a commissioner to the Lake City Housing authority at the June 18 meeting.

Attending were Mayor Jon Milligan, Aldermen Harold Barker, Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis, Jeffery Wisham, and Danny Dunigan. Brenda Hutcheson was absent.

Chief Winred Saffell addressed the council members making a recommendation to hire Toby Rand as police officer. Chief Saffell said the other officers were also in agreement with his recommendation.

Alderman Wisham made the motion, seconded by Alderman Davis, to hire Toby Rand as new police officer for the City of Lake city at a salary of $10.50 an hour, with one year probation. The motion was approved unanimously.

Following the monthly financial report review, Councilmen heard by title only the second reading of Ordinance No. 259-12, an ordinance for the purpose of adopting the City of Lake City Tree Ordinance.

The council then voted unanimously to re-appoint Jerry Freeman to the Board of Commissioners of the Lake City Housing Authority.

Mayor Milligan asked the council to review information on Legacy Consulting for the next meeting which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 23.
