Gong Show for Relay for Life

The first annual Gong Show for Relay for Life was held Friday, April 27, at the Melody Theater in Leachville with a variety of acts from comedy to serious.

The judges included Ann Wells (Simon); Barbara Lloyd (Phyllis Diller); and Alice Bowden (Miss Feisty).

Emcee was Relay for Life community representative Jackie Wallis who kept the show rolling. Directing the production were Sherry Hetler and Brenda Laffoon.

Acts included the Pillowcase Dancers; The Sisters; Jessica Stull singing gospel songs; New Harmony Youth performing the Mississippi Squirrel Revival; The Poodle Dancers; Judy Hampton singing gospel; Minnie Pearl; Haven Bohannon singing gospel; Donna Hampton singing; a comedy act from Road Hog; and the Supremes.

Overall winner in the talent category was Donna Hampton.

"We appreciate everyone who participated and everyone who attended," Brenda Matheny, Relay chairman, said.

The event raised over $200 for the Buffalo Island Relay for Life. The Relay for Life event will be held June 22 at the Leachville City Park.
