Lake City hires police officer

A special called meeting of the Lake City Council was held Thursday, March 1, with council members accepting the resignation of a police officer and filling the position.

Aldermen present included Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis, Jeffery Wisham, Danny Dunigan and Brenda Hutcheson.

Mayor Jon Milligan informed the council of the resignation of Officer Chris Sharp, effective March 11. The council voted unanimously to accept Sharp's resignation.

Police Chief Winred Saffell presented a resume belonging to Patrolman 1st Class Christopher S. Walker for the council's review.

Chief Saffell asked the council to consider Patrolman Walker for hire. Walker is presently employed with the city of Marion and lives at Bay. He is certified in all areas and has been a police officer for 10 years.

A motion was made by Alderman Eakins and seconded by Alderman Wisham to hire Walker as police officer with the Lake City Police Department at a salary of $10.50 per hour. Mr. Walker will be on probation for one year. He will have 90 days to move to Lake City. The motion was approved unanimously.
