East Poinsett County avenged its only loss of the season with a resounding 53-31 victory over Buffalo Island Central in the semifinals of the 2A-3 District Tournament Thursday night at Lake City.
Malik Monk pumped in a game high 25 points to lead the Warriors into the championship game. EPC took a slim 14-13 edge after the first period before stretching their lead to 30-20 by halftime. The Warriors held a 38-25 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Alan Carmichael led the Mustangs with 14 points. Austin Pike added eight, Tyler Myers scored seven while Trevor Couch chipped in two points.
The Mustangs advanced to the semifinals when Austin Pike drilled a three pointer at the buzzer to lift BIC to a thrilling 45-42 overtime victory over Marked Tree Wednesday night.
The Mustangs led 12-7 after the first quarter and held a 21-19 lead at the half. BIC stretched its lead to 33-24 after three periods of play. The Indians rallied in the final frame, outscoring BIC 11-2 to send the game into overtime.
Pike led BIC with a game high 24 points. Tyler Myers scored eight, Alan Carmichael tallied six, Johnathan Mondragon contributed three while Trevor Couch and Jerry Cazares added two points apiece.
Octavious Dean led Marked Tree with 15 points.
Austin Pike and Alan Carmichael were named to the 2A-3 All-Conference team.
