Committee and team members of the Buffalo Island Relay for Life met Thursday at the Leachville Community Center.
The group agreed on a theme Carnival/Circus Celebration; "Under the Big Top, Fighting for a Cure."
Several fundraising events were discussed including a gong show, road blocks, concert, wrestling match and other possible fundraisers.
There will be a road block in Leachville and Manila on April 14. Wrestling has been set for May 5 at the Manila Community Center.
Honorary survivors were discussed. One honorary cancer survivor from each town across Buffalo Island will represent his or her town and lead the survivor walk the night of the Relay.
Meetings will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center February through May. Anyone interested in getting a team together, or helping individually, is welcome to be part of the Relay for Life.
Survivor chairman is Tina Matheny.
Jackie Wallis, community representative for Relay for Life, announced area Relay dates. Jonesboro will be held June 1; Paragould, June 8; Corning, June 15; Buffalo Island, June 22; Piggott, June 23.
This is Leap Year and the group set Feb. 29 as an extra day of fundraising for Relay for Life.
"We appreciate all of our teams, sponsors, volunteers, and individuals who give so generously in the fight against cancer," Matheny said.
Wallis presented Matheny with the Mid South Division, Inc. Community Volunteer Award for 2010-2011.
