Senior Center welcomed guest speaker Robert Earl Davis
Suzanne Southard, director of the Mississippi County senior activity centers, was in Manila on Thursday to introduce guest speaker Robert Earl Davis, "The Arkansas Comedian."
"We are happy to have quorum court member Robert Earl Davis here today as a guest speaker," Southard said. "We are also happy to have other quorum court members join us at the Manila Center. Mr. Davis has served on the school board for 30 years, state electric board 16 years, Mississippi County Electric Board 25 years and the quorum court 25 years. He won first place in the cotton picking contest in the county and won first place in the senior citizen cotton picking contest."
Davis was welcomed by over 70 attending.
"Laughter is God's helping hand to a troubled world," Davis said. "Laugher keeps you young. I am honored to be here today with you."
Davis retired about 13 years ago. He was a farmer and had worked 30 years with agriculture research. He started telling stories and became a popular speaker. He has been invited to speak at several senior citizens gathering, electric co-op meetings, and at civic meetings.
He enjoys sharing his country humor but he especially enjoys meeting new people as he speaks throughout the area. His opinion in describing an Arkansas Redneck brought laughter, along with his other stories.
Other quorum court members attending were Michael White and Fred Fleeman.
