Lesia Couch announces plans to seek re-election

Lesia Couch, Craighead County Eastern District deputy clerk, announced plans to seek re-election.

Couch is a lifelong resident of Caraway. She graduated from Caraway Central High School in 1979 and worked for Heritage Bank for 16 years prior to running for Eastern District deputy clerk in 1999. She has been unopposed for five terms.

She and husband Fred have three sons and eight grandchildren.

She has three employees at the courthouse office in Lake City.

"Deb, Donna and Sonja help make this office run smoothly," Couch said.

Eastern District Craighead County consists of the towns of Lake City, Monette, Black Oak, Caraway, part of Lunsford, Dixie, Lester, most of range 6 and all of range 7 in Craighead County.

"Our office is responsible for assessing personal property for Eastern and Western District, collecting delinquent personal taxes for Eastern and Western District and collecting delinquent real estate taxes for Eastern District only," Couch said. "We are the keeper of records for deeds, mortgages, etc. and take care of domestic relations, civil, criminal and probate filings. We also issue marriage licenses and help take care of the early voting in Eastern District.

"We are very blessed to have the revenue office in our building. People can feel the small town convenience of coming in and getting everything taken care of at one location. We continue to strive to have a friendly office for prompt service."
