Lady Mustangs win three straight, hold first place in league play

Buffalo Island Central swept three conference games last week to improve their record to 27-5 overall and a league leading 14-1 in 2A-3 conference action.

Brittany Fowler scored 19 points to lead the Mustangs past Walnut Ridge 67-47 Friday night at Monette. Cassidy Qualls and Kaylee Greathouse added 10 points apiece while Emily Owens snared 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Mustangs. Owens scored seven points, Hayley Parker netted five, Cidnee Brooks tallied four, Callie Brooks and Katelyn Sparkman added three points apiece while Rachel Goldammer and Brittany Stockton contributed two points each. Taylor McKuin and Jodiee Clay added one point each to round out the Mustang scoring attack.

BIC connected on 11-15 free throws and drilled seven treys.

BIC began the week with a heart stopping 38-35 victory over rival Marmaduke to hang on to first place in the 2A-3 conference.

Marmaduke took a slim 8-6 lead after the first quarter before BIC rallied to tie the game at 14-14 by halftime. The Lady Mustangs moved ahead 33-27 after three quarters of play.

Brittany Fowler recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards to lead BIC offensively. Callie Brooks scored six, Hayley Parker netted four, Emily Owens tallied three while Kaylee Greathouse and Katelyn Sparkman added two points apiece.

Anna Best and Whitley Boggs led the Lady Greyhounds with 10 points each.

Brittany Fowler poured in 32 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out six assists to power the Lady Mustangs to a 71-62 victory over Marked Tree Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex. Fowler connected on 13-14 foul shots while the Lady Mustangs hit 20-28 as a team.

Callie Brooks also hit double digits for BIC, scoring 10 points. Cassidy Qualls and Brittany Stockton tallied eight points apiece, Hayley Parker netted six, Kaylee Greathouse tallied five while Emily Owens chipped in two points.

Poohnu Perry scorched the nets, scoring a game high 40 points to lead Marked Tree. Jay Perry and Lexi Perry added 10 points apiece.

Marked Tree held a slim 12-11 lead after the opening period before BIC rallied to tie the game 23-23 at the half. The Lady Mustangs moved ahead 45-39 after three quarters.

In junior high action, Marmaduke moved into a first place tie with BIC, taking a 53-50 overtime victory Monday night at the MAC.

Alex Richey led Marmaduke with 17 points while Cidnee Bopp and Abby Meredith added 11 points apiece.

Hannah Poe led BIC with 14 points while Kara Thomas added nine. Candice Hodge scored seven, Megan Webster, Ashley Field and Kelsey Strickland added five points apiece. Madison Greathouse and Bailey Owens tallied two points each while Blaire Wildy added one point.

BIC came back Thursday night to claim a 54-45 victory over Marked Tree. Candice Hodge led BIC with 19 points while Madison Greathouse followed with 13 more. Hannah Poe scored eight, Bailey Owens added six, Megan Webster tallied four while Blaire Wildy and Ashley Field added two points apiece.

Payton Carter led Marked Tree with 16 points while Deziree Reel added 15 more.

BIC rolled to a 59-37 victory Friday night at Monette. Kelsey Strickland drained four three pointers on her way to a 16 point performance to lead the Lady Mustangs in scoring. Candice Hodge and Bailey Owens added 10 points apiece, Karo Thomas netted eight, Madison Greathouse tallied five while Hannah Poe, Megan Webster, Blaire Wildy, Ashley Field and Nikki Gordon added two points each.

Whitney Rider led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points.

BIC will return to action Thursday night when they host Rector.
