Maynard sinks last second shot to stun Lady Rebels 44-42

Jordan Roberts hit a short jumper in the lane with less than five seconds on the clock to deal Riverside a heartbreaking 44-42 loss in 2A-3 senior girls conference action Thursday night at Maynard.

Sarah West led the Lady Tigers with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Micaela West added 11 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Kenzley Wilson scored a game high 19 points to lead Riverside, who dropped to 7-15 overall and 2-10 in league play. Rebekah Frayer added 17 points for the Lady Rebels.

Maynard also won the junior high contest, outlasting Riverside 46-44 in double overtime. Natalie Milligan scored a game high 23 points while Chelsea Nichols chipped in 11 more for the Lady Rebels, who dropped to 15-10 and 5-5 in 2A-3 conference play.

The Lady Rebels began the week, losing a 57-40 decision Monday night at Rector.

The Lady Cougars (20-4, 7-4 2A-3) were led by Kendal Gunn's 15 points. Rector held a 13-6 lead after the opening quarter before Riverside cut the lead to 24-20 at the half.

Kenzley Wilson pumped in 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Rebekah Frayer added 18 points and five steals for the Lady Rebels.

Rector took the junior high contest 34-28.

The Lady Rebels will return to action Monday night when they host Marked Tree at Caraway. Riverside will close out the week hosting Walnut Ridge Thursday night at Lake City.
