Manila trash cans arrived

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Manila water superintendent Henry Ford announced trash cans available to Manila citizens have arrived and can be purchased at City Hall.

Manila residents wishing to purchase the 96 gallon, heavy-duty trash can may pay $60 cash or have $5 a month placed on their water bill for one year. Anyone interested should see Susie Baker at City Hall between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office closes for lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Manila Mayor Wagner said the trash cans will be provided at the low cost to Manila residents. He said the city's truck will be able to pick up the cans automatically making it easier on the workers.

Mayor Wagner asks residents not to place old furniture or mattresses by the streets for the trash pick-up. Residents can drop off these items at the solid waste site off Olympia Street.

"If someone does not have access to a truck, if they will call city hall we will try to help them but please do not just put items out by the street," Mayor Wagner said.
