BIC East gets early Christmas gift
Teachers and staff at Buffalo Island Central East arrived on Monday morning to find Santa (by the name of PTO) had arrived early.
Members of the PTO proved to be quite the little elves as they did an extreme makeover in the teacher's lounge at BIC east.
PTO volunteers were recently working at the book fair, across from the teacher's lounge, and they heard someone say the lounge needed new or newer furniture.
"Our teachers are special," Laura Imler-Oldham, with the PTO, said. "We are looking for things we can do for them and when we overheard about the furniture we decided we could help."
The PTO members visited Gamble's Home Furnishings and talked to Jeremy who partnered with the volunteers to make it possible.
The lounge now has two new couches, a chair, tables, a baker's shelf, wall decorations and extra touches including rugs, matching curtains and mirrors.
They plan to replace the border to match the new décor.
"We take pride in our school and this was a room that needed a little extra love," Oldham said. "This not only gives more seating for the teachers."
Rebecca Burrier, also a member of the PTO, is donating a refrigerator for the lounge.
Nicole Stewart, East Elementary Principal, was off work on Friday and was surprised to come to work on Monday morning and find the gift.
"We appreciate our PTO," Stewart said. "They are always doing such nice things for our teachers and school. The teachers have expressed their appreciation to PTO and Gambles for the makeover."
