Veterans programs planned in Manila

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

The Manila community veterans program will be held at 11 a.m. on 11-11-11 at the Herman Davis Monument (if inclement weather, it will be held inside at the Airport Center). All veterans are invited to the program and to the Depot for a light lunch and tour of the military display at the Manila museum.

Eddie Joe Barker, former Manila resident and Army veteran, will have the Color Guard presentation and guest speaker will be Colonel Jerry W. Bowen, U.S. Army retired. Col. Bowen of Jonesboro is a 1964 graduate of the Army ROTC program at Arkansas State University and a native of Newport. He served 26 years in active duty as an infantry officer, retiring in 1989 after a five year assignment at the Pentagon. During his career Col. Bowen served three combat tours.

All veterans are invited to attend a Veterans' program at the Manila School at 2 p.m. Principal LeAnn Helms said veterans and visitors for the program can park in the lot in front of the Justin Veach elementary building and come through the front door.
