BIC captures both boys and girls district golf championships
Sarah Roddy fired a 45 to take home medalist honors, helping Buffalo Island Central to its fourth straight girls District Tournament title last week at the Turkey Mountain Golf Course at Horseshoe Bend. Twin sister Lauren Roddy shot a 48 while Brittany Stockton completed the scoring for the Lady Mustangs in the nine hole event shooting a 54.
The BIC girls team score of 147 was 19 shots better than runner-up Salem. Also qualifying for the state tournament was Riverside's Chaney McLean.
BIC also captured the boy's district title, shooting an 18 hole score of 288. The Mustangs were led by medalist Alex Field, who fired an 82. Teammates Forrest Robertson and Ryan Stuck shot 102 and 104 respectively. Cedar Ridge finished second, shooting a team score of 313, 25 shots behind the Mustangs.
This was the first district title for the Mustang boys team.
"I am very proud of both of our golf teams," said BIC coach Cary Cossey. "This was our fourth straight title in girls, which is quite an accomplishment, and I was told this is our first boys district title. We finished fifth in the state in the girls division last year, and we are looking for another top five finish this season. I think if things go right we have a good chance at winning the state title."
The girls state tournament will be held Wednesday at Stone Links Golf Course in Little Rock while the boys state tournament will begin Monday, Oct. 3, at the Centennial Valley Golf Course in Conway.
