Brittany Stockton on her way to Australia
Brittany Stockton, student at Buffalo Island Central, has been invited to participate in the Down Under Sports tournament to be held in Australia the summer of 2012.
"I am honored to be an ambassador of not only our community and state, but also our country," Brittany said. I hope to participate in this international tournament."
Brittany is looking for sponsors to help her participate in the track and field sports event. A major source of funds will come from voluntary contributions of family, friends and business sponsors.
She and her friends will be having several fund-raisers in the upcoming months.
Sponsors will also have the opportunity to have their name placed in two drawings. The first drawing is for a trip for two to the Down Under event. The second drawing is for an all expense paid Caribbean cruise for two.
Qualifying her to participate in the upcoming event she participated in district and state track competitions. In the district track competition Brittany placed first in the shot-put and second in the discus throw. She then placed second in state in the discus throw and also did well in the state shot-put.
"I am happy to be invited to be part of Team USA," she said. "I have had a lot of good support from my family and friends and I appreciate their help."
The competition will be nine days in Australia and she will also have three days in Hawaii.
Brittany is a junior at Buffalo Island Central High School. She is the daughter of Tommy and Tammy Stockton.
"This is a great opportunity for me," she said.
