Town Crier News Staff
The American Cancer Buffalo Island Relay for Life will celebrate its 10th anniversary Friday, June 24, at the Leachville City Park.
The Relay Life event is a way for communities throughout Buffalo Island to join together to help in the fight against cancer.
Brenda Matheny, chairman, encourages people from all towns to come out and support the Relay. Co-chairman is Rebecca Clowers.
This year's Relay is a sports theme with teams battling for a cure. There will be food, games, silent auction, and entertainment. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
Cancer survivors will be recognized with a special survivor ceremony starting around 6:30 p.m. Survivors sign-up will begin at 5:15. Survivors will lead the walk in the first victory lap.
Luminaries in honor of survivors and in memory of friends and family members who have lost their battle with cancer will light the walkway.
The Relay for Life is the grand finale of many months of work. Teams have held a variety of fund raisers, businesses and individuals have given donations, and team members are ready to join in the relay for a cure.
Community Representative is Jackie Wallace. He said he is looking forward to the 2011 Buffalo Island Relay for Life. He invites everyone to come out and join in the Relay.
