Riding for a good cause

Riders waited out the rain for the first annual Relay for Life Poker Run.

The Belles and Beaus Buffalo Island American Cancer Relay for Life team sponsored a Poker Run on Saturday starting at the Melody Theater.

In addition to the Poker Run, a bake sale was held.

The riders were patient as they waited on the rain the go through. They were scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. but they got on the road at 11:25 with Mark Johnson leading the way.

They changed their route and rode to Caruthersville. There were 15 participants.

Hot dogs and refreshments were served at the Melody and special t-shirts were made.

Richard pace won the poker hand drawing and gave the prize back to the Relay for Life.

"We appreciate all of the participants, our sponsors and our teams," Relay Chairman Brenda Matheny said.
