The third monument, which will be larger, is on its way from Italy.

Marlyn Looney told committee members the monument is on the waters coming from Italy. The new monument will be large enough to hold approximately 300 names.

"We appreciate the patience of everyone who has submitted their names and payments," she said.

Karen Wallace reported approximately 80 names have been submitted for the next monument.

The committee agreed a deadline has to be made for names at the present $35 cost. Once the monument is up the cost will be $70 each to have names added.

Following a discussion, the group set May 31 for the $35 deadline.

Wallace encouraged anyone who wants to get names added to get them to her.

"This is for all veterans and those serving in the military," Wallace said. "It is not just for Leachville, it is for all of the area."

She also pointed out anyone who would like to make donations in the honor or memory of a loved one can be made to the Veteran's Park.

"This is something to honor all of our veterans," Wallace said.

To make a donation, mail to Karen Wallace, P.O. Box 586, Leachville, AR 72438; or for more information call (870) 539-2202.

The committee is hoping the monument will be placed and ready for a dedication service on Flag Day.

Looney commended the Leachville city workers for getting the trees planted. More trees and flowers will be purchased for the Veterans Park.

Committee member Mandy McFall said her science club will be sponsoring a fundraiser with proceeds going to the landscaping project.
