Star Scout Shannon Sparkman and Star Scout Evan Long had been nominated to the Order of The Arrow by their fellow Boy Scouts in February. The Order of the Arrow is the equivalent to scouting as the National Honor Society is to high school academics.
Long and Sparkman satisfied the tests of the ordeal, which are intended to serve as the final exam for their entry into the order and they were awarded their white sashes with the emblem of the order emblazoned on it. This sash will be a part of their formal uniform for the remainder of their scouting careers.
As new members of the Cherokee District Chapter of Order Of The Arrow, they will be expected to attend and participate in many advanced scouting projects. Both Sparkman and Long have acknowledged the pride they feel in this important step in their scouting careers.
Troop leaders, Joe Hultquist, Mark Cloninger, Mark Woessner and Donald Smith have commended the two scouts for their achievement.
