Buffalo Island School board approves bonuses

Buffalo Island Central school board approved bonuses for employees at the regular board meeting held Monday, April 11.

The board voted unanimously to approve a $500 bonus for each certified and classified employee. The funds will come from the Education Jobs Fund Program. (This requires additional money from the Operating Fund to accomplish.) The bonus check will be issued with the April paychecks.

The board voted to accept the resignation of Karen Damron, east cafeteria manager, and to promote Cindy Lancaster to the position.

The board discussed operating the school cafeteria for summer student programs. The cafeteria will be open during the summer. Details will be provided at a later date.

The board approved the hiring of all personnel necessary to staff the summer programs.

The board approved the transfer of Jeremy Householder, 17, from Riverside to BIC.

The Robotics team was given $2,000 for gym clean-up during the state tournament.

Installation of playground equipment purchased with stimulus funds and construction of fall zones for the new equipment were discussed. The proposal from Wayne Davis Playgrounds to install equipment and fall zones was accepted. The cost is $6,315 for the East campus and $5,070 for West.

The board reviewed the financial statements and warrant listings.
