Manila art students win poster contest
Three Manila students were awarded prizes in the Mississippi County Farm Bureau Safety Promotion Contest.
The county-wide competition ran in conjunction with Farm Bureau's Agricultural Safety Awareness Week, March 6-12. The theme for the poster contest was safety including farm machinery, chemicals, home, fire, bus, tornado, etc.
MaKenzie Stallings, second grade, won overall first place for her poster on tornado safety. Her poster was sent to Little Rock for state competition. She received $50 for first place.
Julia McMinn, third grade student, won third place for her creative poster on fire safety. She received $12.50.
Josh Galloway, fourth grade student, won third place in the 4-6 grade competition. He received $12.50.
Cynthia Sullivan with the Mississippi County Farm Bueau Women's Committee made the presentation Thursday offering her congratulations to the students. She expressed her appreciation to all of the students for their participation.
Manila had 22 entries in the grade 1-3 division and 12 entries in the 4-6 grade division.
The students are under the direction of art teacher Brooke Aguilar. She said they discussed the competition briefly in class and students took the incentive to finish the projects at home.
The work was placed on display before being returned to the students.
Principal Diane Baugher also congratulated the students.
