This is the 10th annual Buffalo Island American Cancer Relay for Life. It will be held at the Leachville City Park. "Sports, Teaming Up for a Cure," is this year's theme.

"Our teams can choose any sport they want for their campsite decorations," Chairman Brenda Matheny said.

Jackie Wallis is the community representative and he shared several ideas for fundraisers at the Thursday meeting. He encouraged teams to get school organizations involved.

"We appreciate all of our teams and our sponsors," Matheny said. "We couldn't do this year after year without the support of our teams and citizens throughout the towns on Buffalo Island."

Upcoming events include a variety show at the Melody Theater on March 25 featuring Ryan Fisher and Suzie Freligh from the Ultimate Oldies Show, along with Carl Liles. For more information, persons may contact Kay at 870-664-0196.

The annual wrestling event featuring former Manila resident Ron Horn will be held April 2 at the Manila Community Center.

The annual Spring Fling will be held at Manila Family Music on April 23.

Miss Tacky Buffalo Island will be held at the Melody Theater at 6 p.m. May 21. There will be a roadblock in Leachville on June 11.

Other events will be scheduled.

Honorary survivors for the 2011 Relay were selected. This year's honorary survivors are Janette Brandon, Monette; Linda Sims, Manila; Deanna Phillips and Carolyn Caldwell, Lake City; Dora Biggerstaff, Leachville; James Williams, Caraway; and Scout Lyerly, Black Oak.

Recipes are being gathered for a Relay for Life cookbook.

It was also decided there will be a silent auction at the Relay for Life event.

The next Relay meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Leachville Community Center. Matheny encourages anyone who is interested in taking part to join in the effort to fight cancer.
