BIC hosting the 2A State basketball tournament
Buffalo Island Central is hosting the Class 2A State Basketball Tournament this week in the Mustang Athletic Complex (MAC). Games started on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the final games being played on Saturday March 5.
This is the first time in BIC's history the Mustangs have been awarded the bid for a state tournament. The MAC has a seating capacity of 1,800, not including standing room.
"A lot of work has gone into getting ready for the tournament," BIC Superintendent
George Edd Holland said. "It is more complicated than people think. The AAA has a lot of guidelines to be met. We have had great support. Our community, school employees, parents, and students are working together to make it successful. We welcome the players and fans to our school."
The Buffalo Island Central Lady Mustangs won the Regional title and will play their first game in the state tournament at 4 p.m. this afternoon against Springhill, fourth place winner in the south region.
"We are excited to have our girls in the tournament," Holland said. "The only thing that would make it better would be if both our teams could have made it.
The first game to kick off the tournament on Tuesday will be a girls game at 1 p.m. with England (1E) against Hartford (4W) followed by a boys game with Hughes (1E) going against Eureka Springs (4W) at 2:30 p.m.
Following the Lady Mustang Game at 4 p.m. on Tuesday will be the North Region's first place team EPC against Mineral Springs (4S) at 5:30 p.m.; Parkers Chapel girls (1S) will go against Cotter (4N) at 7 p.m.; Strong boys team (1S) will take on Rector (4N) at 8:30 p.m. for the last game of the day.
Games will resume on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with girls from County Line (1W) playing Augusta (4E); County Line boys (1W) will play Clarendon (4E) at 2:30 p.m.; Marmaduke girls (2N) will play Foreman (3S) at 4 p.m. Riverside Rebels (2N) will play on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. going against Junction City (3S); Norplet girls (2S) will play East Poinsett County (3N) at 7 p.m.
Ending the Wednesday games will be a boys game between Parkers Chapel (2S) and Cross County (3N).
Thursday games will begin with a girls game at 1 p.m. with Hazen (2E) against Mountainburg (3W); a boys match-up against Augusta (2E) and Mountainburg (3W) will be held 2:30 p.m.; Bigelow girls (2W) against Hughes (3E) at 4 p.m.; Danville boys (2W) will play Des Arc (3E) at 5:30 p.m. Games will continue Thursday evening at 7 and 8:30 p.m.
Friday games will be at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m.; 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Saturday games will be at 12, 1:30 p.m. and 6 and 7:30 p.m.
The state championship games will be held in Hot Springs the following week.
