MANILA BOYS DEFEAT AREA RIVALS RIVERSIDE, BIC
Manila posted its 22nd victory of the year with an easy 87-61 victory over Buffalo Island Central Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex. Levi Wallace poured in 21 points while J.J. Helton drilled five three pointers and added 17 more to lead the Lions (22-6) to the victory. Kam Ashabranner scored 12 points while Taylor Morgan added 10 as Manila placed four players in double figures.
Jeremy Smith led BIC with 17 points while Dilynn Strickland and Daniel Davis added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Manila held a 20-7 lead after the first quarter and outscored Riverside 19-6 in the second period to take a 39-13 lead into the dressing room at the half. Manila led 57-21 entering the fourth quarter.
Cole Winford paced the Rebels with 14 points while Josh Anderson chipped in 10 more.
Riverside traveled to Brookland and came away with a 56-46 victory over the Bearcats Friday night. Cole Winford led three Rebels in double figures, scoring a team high 19 points. Josh Anderson added 18 while Alteeno Sain pitched in 14 more as Riverside improved to 19-14 on the year.
Spencer Elder led Brookland with 13 points.
In senior girls action Friday night at Brookland, Riverside downed the Lady Bearcats
50-43 behind Meagan Goza's 18 points and nine rebounds. Kyley Campbell scored 15 points while Bekah Frayer added 10 more as Riverside put three players in double digits.
Riverside trailed 10-7 after the first period before rallying to take a 23-22 edge at the half. The Lady Rebels led 34-31 heading into the final frame.
Brookland (14-16) was led by Samantha Flowers who scored 13 points while Jade Stevens added 12 more.
Senior high district tournament play will begin this week with Manila traveling to Piggott for the 3A-3 District Tournament while Riverside and BIC will open 2A-3 District Tournament play at Caraway.
