Rivercrest knocks Manila boys, girls from junior district
Manila's junior high basketball season ended for both the boys and girls teams Saturday in the semifinals of the 3A-3 District Tournament at Manila. Rivercrest took down the Manila boys 60-42 while the Lady Colts defeated the Lady Lions 36-26.
The Manila junior boys began the game with three consecutive treys, two by Thomas Davis and one from Caleb Reinhart, as the two teams battled to a 9-9 tie midway through the opening quarter. But the Colts rallied, scoring nine unanswered points, to take an 18-9 lead after the first period.
Rivercrest held a 30-22 advantage at the half, and stretched their margin to 48-35 entering the final period. Davis finished the day with 18 points, all on three pointers. Scott Eubanks also hit double digits, scoring 12, while Reinhart added six. Kyle Joyner scored three, Landon Thomas tallied two while Kyle Williams added one point.
Kevin Smith led the Colts with 17 points while Garrett Lane and Tim Tally added 12 and 11 respectively.
The Lady Lions took an 11-7 lead over Rivercrest after the first quarter before the Lady Colts rallied to take a 26-16 halftime advantage. Rivercrest led 30-21 after three periods of play.
Charlie Smith led the Lady Lions with 11 points, Kailen Shelton had six, Deven Burrow scored five, Bailey Towell tallied three while Haley Hicks added one point.
Samantha Jackson led Rivercrest with a game high 14 points.
Rivercrest defeated Corning 48-26 the boys finals while Corning defeated the Lady Colts 36-26 for the girls championship.
