Season comes to close for Mustang junior high teams
Riverside ended Buffalo Island Central's season with a 55-47 victory in the semifinals of the 2A-3 Junior High District Tournament Saturday afternoon at Cross County, despite Nick Bollinger, who poured in a game high 25 points for the Mustangs.
The Rebels jumped to a 17-8 first quarter lead and held a 32-18 advantage at the half. Riverside took a 42-29 lead into the fourth quarter.
Drake Brown and Alan Carmichael scored eight points apiece for BIC. Jacob Sanders tallied four while Erik Navarro finished with two points. The Mustangs hit 15-19 free throws and drilled three treys.
Kollin Stone led Riverside with 19 points while Caleb Waugh added 15 more. Ben Hensley, Brandon Sain and Gunner Tyler tallied six points apiece while Devon Austin added three. The Rebels drained nine treys on the afternoon and hit 11-17 foul shots.
The Mustangs defeated Marmaduke 44-38 Friday night in first round action. Nick Bollinger scored a game high 17 points to lead BIC while Erik Navarro also hit double digits, scoring 15 more. Jacob Sanders and Drake Brown pitched in four points apiece, Johnathan Mondragon contributed three while Alan Carmichael added one point. BIC connected on 12-16 foul shots and hit three treys.
Marmaduke held a 9-5 lead after the opening period before BIC rallied to take an 18-17 edge at the half. The Greyhounds came back to tie the game 26-26 heading into the fourth quarter. Eddie Page led Marmaduke with 11 points.
Nick Bollinger and Austin Pike were named to the All-Conference team.
The Lady Mustangs dropped a 46-38 decision in the first round of tournament play to Walnut Ridge. BIC finished its season with a 14-13 record.
Kandice Hodge led BIC with 14 points while Bailey Owens added nine. Taylor McKuin scored six, Hannah Poe tallied five while Madison Greathouse and Karoline Thomas added two points apiece. Poe was named to the All-Conference team.
The Lady Bobcats held a slim 11-10 lead after the opening period and took a 19-17 edge into the dressing room at the half. Walnut Ridge outscored BIC 23-7 in the third quarter to take a 42-24 lead into the final frame.
