Working together to make a difference
Buffalo Island Relay for Life Chairman Brenda Matheny and Area Representative Jackie Wallis met with committee members to discuss the 2011 event scheduled for June. This is Wallis' first year to serve as representative for the Buffalo Island Relay and he is looking forward to working with the committee and teams.
Ms. Matheny has served as chairman for several years. This will be the 10th annual Buffalo Island Relay and she invites everyone to participate.
"Together we can make a difference," she said. "We are happy to have Jackie work with us."
Committee members and teams will be taking donations for luminaries in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of those who have lost their fight to cancer. The luminaries are $5 each. A special luminary bag with the name of survivors and in memory of loved ones will be placed around the walking track the night of the Relay to light the way.
There will be several fundraising activities sponsored by different teams in the coming weeks.
The committee is working on a Buffalo Island Relay for Life cookbook. Recipes can be put in memory of loved ones who have lost their battle to cancer or in honor of cancer survivors. Recipes can be turned in at the Manila Town Crier Office; Leachville City Hall; or to any committee member.
"We appreciate each and every one who takes a part," Matheny said.
