Lake City Council approves budget
The Lake City Council members approved the 2011 proposed budget for the city at the regular December meeting held Monday night.
Members present were Harold Barker, Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis, Jeffery Wisham, Jon Milligan and Brenda Hutcheson. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Billy Anderson. Also present was the City Clerk Linda Simpson.
Mayor Anderson presented to the council the State Bid information on a 2011 Crown Vic Police car and included information on E911 which will commence March 1.
Mayor Anderson told the council members glass tops on the council room tables would be replaced by S&S Glass at a cost of $527.04.
The Mayor received word from Craighead County Solid Waste Disposal Authority (CCSWDA) that the city of Lake City has received a recyling grant in the amount of $19,900 towards the purchase of a new truck to be used in its Blue Bag program. CCSWDA will order the truck.
Mayor Anderson presented Josh Barnes to the Council for enrollment as a member of the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Barnes had previously served on the Fire Department. Barnes was accepted unanimously.
There will be a special meeting a 2 p.m. on Dec. 30.
Lake City resident and former Council member Bill Reeves asked to speak at the end of the meeting. Mr. Reeves commended Mayor Anderson on the work he accomplished during his four years in office. He went on to mention various improvements in town that were needed.
"If you don't see them, you don't know they are there," Mr. Reeves said.
He talked about repairs to the sewer pumping stations, paving on Lake Street by the Skylark Addition, and paving of streets that have been done in the city since Mayor Anderson has been in office.
