Dorothy Alston Towles

Mrs. Dorothy Alston Towles, age 86, of Manila, passed from this life Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at her home. Born at Manila she was the daughter of the late Herman and Bessie Elizabeth Hutton Alston and was a lifelong area resident. She was the widow of Milton Towles and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Manila. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Dewey Towles, a daughter, Elizabeth Towles, and two grandsons, Randall Towles and Bryan Towles.

Survivors include a son, Tommy Towles of Manila; two daughters, Amy Flannigan of Manila and Candese Jackson of Manila; a brother, Dr. H.D. Alston of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the First Baptist Church in Manila with Rev. Ray Dill, Rev. William Piercy and Rev. Jim Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening from 6-8 at the First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Barry Baker, Dennis Sammons, Paul Hicks, Jerry Hitchcock, Tony Costner, and Dennis Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Robbins, Vance Mace, Tom Jaco, Lance Gray, Micky Littlejohn, Jimmy Thieme, Wade Shownes, Dr. Phillip Alston, Dr. L.L. Shedd, Wayne and Linda Shedd, Tony and Sheila Hawkins, Bob and Betty Scott, Clarence Shockley, Sandra Hicks, Angie Master, and the Gleaner's Sunday School Class.
