Black Rock held off Riverside 49-41 in the finals of the Williams Baptist Invitational Basketball Tournament to claim the championship Saturday night at Walnut Ridge.
Tadd Fore scored 16 points while Khris Foster added 12 more to lead the Zebras to the title. Alteeno Sain and Cole Winford led Riverside with 10 points apiece.
The Rebels advanced to the finals with a 68-58 victory Friday night over Hillcrest in the semifinals. Logan Meurer pumped in 20 points while Alteeno Sain poured in 17 more, including a monster slam in the closing seconds to lead Riverside. Jake Love also hit double digits, scoring 13 points. Cole Winford netted nine, Josh Anderson tallied seven while Tyler Rolland and Morgan Fletcher added one point apiece.
The Rebels kept Hillcrest in the game by hitting just 21-40 from the free throw line. Riverside finished the night with three treys. The Rebels led 15-10 after the first quarter and 28-24 at the half. Riverside took a 40-37 edge into the final frame.
Dylan Wooten paced the Screamin' Eagles with 20 points. Zac Doyle and Hunter Nunnally added 13 and 12 points respectively. Hillcrest managed to hit just three of 17 field goal attempts in the first half.
The Rebels edged Batesville Southside 53-52 Thursday night in quarterfinal action. Riverside jumped to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter and took a 31-23 advantage into the dressing room at the half. The Rebels led 47-32 entering the final quarter. Batesville Southside outscored Riverside 20-6 in the final period before watching their rally fall one point short.
Alteeno Sain led Riveride with 19 points while Cole Winford added 11. Josh Anderson and Tyler Rolland scored six points apiece while Jake Love and Logan Meurer added four points each. Jake Emery finished with three points.
Kevin Jackson led Batesville Southside with 18 points while Dalton Littleton added 12.
The Rebels began the week dropping a 68-45 decision in 2A-3 conference play Tuesday night at Rector.
The Cougars placed four players in double digits, led by Mitchell Webber who scored a game high 16 points. Kirk Horton and Tyler Kirklin scored 11 points apiece while Brandon Harnes added 10. Rector hit 18-21 foul shots and drilled six three pointers on the night.
Jake Love paced Riverside with 14 points while Alteento Sain added 11 more. Cole Winford contributed nine, Logan Meurer, Tyler Rolland and Luke Moyer added three points apiece while M.J. Brewer tallied two. The Rebels hit seven of 17 foul shots and made four three pointers.
Rector raced to a 24-5 lead after the opening quarter and held a 38-17 advantage at the half. The Cougars led 50-37 after three quarters.
Riverside will participate in the Gerald Jennings Holiday Tournament December 6-11 at Valley View.
