Manila remains unbeaten on the season

Manila ran its record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in 3A-3 conference play with an easy 75-48 victory at Hoxie Friday night.

Levi Wallace pumped in 23 points while J.J. Helton poured in 21 more to lead four Lions in double figures. Garrett Scott and Kam Ashabranner also hit double digits with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Zach Crisler scored 22 points to lead Hoxie (0-2, 0-1 3A-3). Coy Yasler added 13 more for the Mustangs.

Manila led 18-7 after the opening quarter and carried a 34-27 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lions put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Hoxie 22-12, to take a 56-39 lead into the fourth period.

The Lions began the week by thrashing Corning 73-37 Tuesday night at Manila. The Lions placed 11 players in the scoring column, led by Ashabranner's 22 point performance. Wallace scored 12 while Helton finished with 11. Taylor Morgan tallied seven, Zack Day and Dillon Burrow pitched in five apiece, Tracey Wade Reinhart netted three while Garrett Scott, Dustin Sirmon, Garrett Baker and Dylan Bogle all chipped in two points each.

The Lions hit just 4-14 free throws but drilled seven treys on the night. Jeremy Flannery led the Bobcats with 10 points. Corning hit just 2-7 from the foul line and made a pair of three pointers.

Manila dropped two of three junior high contests last week, losing a heartbreaking 48-47 decision to Corning Tuesday night after opening the week with a 51-39 victory over Armorel. The Lions fell 53-46 Friday night at Hoxie.

Thomas Davis fired home 22 points in the Lion's one point loss to Corning. Manila and Corning battled to a 10-10 tie after the first period before the Lions pulled ahead 24-21 at the half. Manila maintained its three point advantage after three quarters, taking a 33-30 edge into the fourth period. Corning rallied, outscoring Manila 18-14 in the final frame to squeeze past the Lions.

Scott Eubanks scored eight points while Kyle Joyner and Tanner Platz added seven points apiece. Caleb Reinhart netted two while Alldonn Skelton added one point to round out the Lion scoring on the night.

The Bobcats placed three players in double figures, led by Russell Cox and Nathan Peterson who scored 11 points apiece. Matt Bafton added 10 more for Corning.

Both teams struggled from the foul line. Manila hit just 7-19 from the charity stripe while Corning made only 5-13 attempts.

Davis pumped in a game high 21 points in Manila's 12 point victory over Armorel Monday night. Platz and Eubanks also hit double digits with 13 and 10 points respectively. Joyner tallied four while Reinhart rounded out the Lion scoring with three points. Seth Eatmon led the Tigers with 13 points.

Both teams hit five treys on the night.

In Manila's loss to Hoxie, Seth Joyner paced the Lions with 15 points while Scott Eubanks and Tanner Platz scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
