The Caraway city council discussed construction bids and opening of new city accounts when the council met Thursday, Nov. 11.
Bids for repairing the city hall roof have been advertised and will be opened at the next council meeting on Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. The bids call for the use of 26-gauge material.
Water Superintendent Terry Couch reported that three bids had been received to paint the water tower. The city received a $23,000 grant to help with the job expenses.
The council moved to place the $23,000 in water tower grant money in a special account. Signatures on the account will be Mayor Barry Riley and Water Department Secretary Marcia Stevens.
The council voted to open an account to allow for electric withdrawal of Social Security tax deposit money. Mayor Riley, Ms. Stevens and Rick Stevens names will be on the account.
Police Chief Pete Hicks was appointed as Commissioner to the Caraway Housing Authority Board.
Couch reported investigation into the electrical problem around the flagpole area.
"Finding the problem is going to take some time," Couch said. "We can use an extension cord temporarily until we find the cause."
Fire Chief Bo James asked for three pagers and repair of a door at the Fire Department. This is to be paid out of the Fire Department Act 884 money received in the amount of $1,513. The cost of the pagers will be $1,134.
The council voted to take $5058.04 from the Water Department account to help pay for a generator used by the Water and Sewer Departments.
Mayor Riley presented information on the newly proposed County 911 fees and contract. This material was discussed during the meeting, but the council took no action.
Mayor Riley presented the 2011 budgets for the City Water-Sewer Departments, General Fund and Street Departments. Further discussion and changes will be made at the Dec. 9 council meeting.
Work will begin Monday, Nov. 15, at the Basler Electric building, with removal of 533 yards of dirt.
The Caraway Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, beginning at 6 p.m.
Councilman Roger Williams announced a Disaster Team meeting for Monday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. at the Caraway Senior Citizen building.
Alderman Roger Williams announced a Veterans Day program for Friday, Nov. 12, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Riverside School. All veterans and the public are invited to attend.
