Manila Firemen honor Manila Mayor

Members of the Manila Fire Department welcomed guests to a retirement dinner for Manila Mayor Clifford Veach.

"We want to thank everyone for coming and we want to express our appreciation to Mayor Clifford Veach for his years of dedication to the city of Manila," Manila Fire Chief Keith Bennett said.

Among the guests were members of the Manila Business Women's Club, Mayor Veach's son, Ray Veach, and retired firefighters.

Chief Bennett and Assistant Chief Wes Sandusky presented Mayor Veach with a plaque.

"I have always been a friend to the Manila Fire Department," Mayor Veach said. "My house in Lost Cane burned in 1954 and here they came. The water was frozen but they did all they could do. I will always be a friend of the fire department."
