The Leachville City Council met Monday, Oct. 11, and worked through a short of agenda consisting of reports, updates and holiday plans.
All departments gave reports for September and opened the floor for discussions and questions from the council.
Volunteer firemen time records were brought up to date.
The council passed a resolution to display the quote "In God We Trust" in a prominent place in the City Hall building. Funding allocated for project expenses was set at $200.
Quotes received for repair or replacement of the Melody Theatre roof were reviewed. The council voted to table any decision until next month, to allow time to secure more information and to view the roof firsthand.
The Leachville Christmas Parade was set for Saturday, Nov. 27, with the lineup to begin at 5:30. A citywide party with free admission will be held at the Theatre following the parade, beginning at 7 p.m. Prizes will be given for winning floats. First place will receive $150, second place $100 and third place $50. The remainder of participants will receive trophies and special awards. Parade Director is Paula Bowen.
No contest will be held this year for residential or business Christmas lighting.
Marilyn Looney congratulated city officials and workers for the improvements made to the city this past year. Special projects included beautification of the city, the Memorial Garden, main street projects, painting of buildings with the help of the LIDC and city volunteers.
"They are to be commended for how well they worked together," Looney said.
Mayor Sheila Spurlock announced early voting would be held from Oct. 25-30 at Arkansas Northeastern College on main street.
The City will observe Halloween on Saturday night, Oct. 30, instead of Sunday, Oct. 31.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Leachville City Hall.
