Ponies outrun Lions 28-0

Hoxie scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and tacked on two more in the second half as the Mustangs raced past the Lions 28-0 in 3A-3 junior high football action Thursday night at Manila.

Running back Robert Vaughn shredded the Lion defense, rushing 13 times for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Pony attack.

Hoxie's first score came on a two yard touchdown run at the 7:45 mark of the second period by quarterback Cole Sears. The two point conversion attempt was good, giving Hoxie an 8-0 lead.

Vaughn scored his first of two touchdowns with 4:44 left in the first half on a 20-yard scoring burst. The two point conversion attempt failed, leaving the Mustangs with a 14-0 halftime advantage.

The Mustangs took the opening kickoff of the second half and put together a time consuming 15-play, 50-yard drive that ate up all but 38 seconds of the third period, culminating on a four yard touchdown run by Vaughn to put the Ponies up 20-0.

Hoxie's final score came on a seven yard dash by Colten Brown with 6:58 left in the game. The two point conversion pass set the final score at 28-0.

Jacob Henson helped the Mustang cause, carrying six times for 50 yards while Cook added 61 yards on three rushes.

The Mustangs finished with 274 yards of total offense, all on the ground.

Kyle Joyner completed six of 16 passes for 87 yards to lead the Lion offense. Thomas Davis snagged three passes for 61 yards to lead Manila in receiving. Jacob Cates had two catches for 13 yards while Caleb Reinhart snared one reception for 13 yards.

Alldonn Skelton led Manila in rushing with eight carries for 19 yards while Davis carried twice for four yards.

Manila will return to action Thursday night when they travel to Piggott for their final road game of the year. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
